Drownings

Drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1 through 4, and among the top ten causes of death in nearly every age group.  Florida, with its many swimming pools and natural bodies of water, experiences among the highest rates of drowning in the nation, particularly among the very young. Drowning Prevention, Florida Dept. of Health, http://www.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/prevention/drowning-prevention/index.html.

The causes of drowning vary.  At the beach, dangerous rip currents can drag swimmers out to sea. (For tips on surviving rip currents, go to www.ripcurrents.noaa.gov).  Theme parks and water parks present their own risks, because overcrowding can prevent lifeguards from watching everyone.  Backyard swimming pools present a number of hazards, including entrapment by the pool drain and circulation system and where there are inadequate barriers to keep children out of the pool.

Our trial lawyers represent families who have had loved ones injured by near-drowning, or who died as a result of drowning. As with all personal injuries, skilled and experienced legal counsel is critically important.  Equally important, by bringing legal action, injury victims play an important role in ensuring that others are not hurt in the same way.
